Special Association Projects
The USS Robert E. Lee Association has arranged to present this plaque, in tribute to WWII Submariners and our boat & crew, at the Admiral Nimitz Museum in Fredricksburg, TX.  This plaque was purchased using proceeds from contributions for the Lee History DVD.

A ceremony was performed to mount this plaque on the Museum's Memorial Wall, in their Memorial Courtyard, on May 1, 2009 during the 10th Reunion in San Antonio, TX.

FLTCM(SS) Frank Lister, COB Blue/Gold 62-69, made a presentation about our joining forces with the other 4 boats in the 598 Class to place a plaque the Naval Memorial in Washington DC.

After Frank's presentation, Association members also voted to have a USS Robert E. Lee plaque placed at the Naval Memorial in D.C. to accompany the 598-class plaque the board approved in August. Total cost for the R.E.Lee plaque will be $2,500.00. Frank was given a $500.00 deposit to reserve a spot on the wall and the president will request donations from the membership in the post reunion e-grams and newsletters.

Below is a photo is a photo of a plaque the Association has just acquired. Nick Louque (YN3(SS), Blue 62-64) has volunteered to restore it and mount it on a wood base. Nick had a smaller plaque made and mounted it underneath to describe what it is. It will be displayed in Charleston, at the next reunion on May 18-2, 2005.

Below, you'll also see photos of a "similar" plaque that, at one time, was affixed to the sail (starboard side aft) at least in the Lee's earlier days.  Those of us who served later, don't remember this plaque still being on the sail, so it may have been removed before the Lee began making patrols or during the first overhaul.   Some shipmates remember seeing this plaque in the Middle Level Operations compartment, perhaps near the Crew's Mess or the Wardroom.  Other shipmates remember seeing it on the Sonar Room's bulkhead, across from the ladder leading to Middle Level Ops (near Officer's Country).  Most remember it being  mounted at the bottom of the ladder that led from Upper Level OPS to the Middle Level OPS compartment, on the bulkhead just outside the Wardroom's scullery (some remembered that the General's sword was there too).

Plaque after Nick Louque has restored it and mounted it on a base with cover.
Nick also had a special plaque made to explain what this plaque is
