Secretary / Treasurer Nick Louque reads the minutes from the Charleston Reunion's Business Meeting and delivers the Annual Financial Report

Newest member, ETSN(SU) Barry Bashaw (Top Gun & Honorman of 1st class named for the RE Lee).  By vote of the members, Barry was made an Associate member until he earns his Dolphins, then will become a regular member.

Nick & Tim inform CDMCM(SS) Scotty Fusco, Command Master Chief of the Trident Training Facility at the Bangor Sub Base, that by the vote of the membership, he has been made a Life Member of the RE Lee Association (as has CDMCM(SS/DV) Tim Pew the speaker of the Charleston Reunion) 

 


FLTCM(SS) Frank Lister, COB Blue/Gold 62-69, made a presentation about our joining forces with the other 4 boats in the 598 Class to place a plaque the Naval Memorial in Washington DC. 

After Frank's presentation, Association members also voted to have a USS Robert E. Lee plaque placed at the Naval Memorial in D.C. to accompany the 598-class plaque the board approved in August. Total cost for the R.E.Lee plaque will be $2,500.00. Frank was given a $500.00 deposit to reserve a spot on the wall and the president will request donations from the membership in the post reunion e-grams and newsletters.

MINUTES FROM THE ASSOCIATION MEMBERS’ BUSINESS MEETING
PORTLAND, OREGON REUNION – SEPTEMBER 22, 2007

The reunion meeting of the USS Robert E. Lee (SSBN 601) Association was held at the Shilo Inn in Portland OR on 22 September 2007 at 1000. The meeting was called to order by President Tim VeArd. A quorum of reunion attendees was present, 91 association members.

Secretary/Treasurer Nick Louque read the minutes from the 21 May 2005 reunion business meeting in Charleston, SC. Motion was made and seconded to accept. Motion approved.

Financial report for 21 May 2005 through 15 September 2007 was given by the secretary/treasurer. Motion made and seconded to accept financial report. Motion approved.

President Tim VeArd discussed goals and objectives of the association and took comments from members.

  • Under new business, it was agreed that the entire R.E.Lee graduating class from TRITRAFAC be made associate members until they qualify and then become full members for the first year. To remain a full member after the first year, dues would have to be paid.

  • It was agreed that Tim Pew and Scotty Fusco would be afforded life memberships in the association.

  • It was agreed that future reunions be held in the month of May.

  • It was agreed that a case of Larry Nutter’s finest wine would be placed in escrow and presented to the "Last Man."

  • It was agreed that the History videos Lynda & Tim made will be only be offered to "current" (dues paid for this year) members of the association for a minimum donation of $20 to the memorial fund. Non members will be asked to contribute a minimum donation of $30, which makes them a member of the association.

The President announced that he and his board have agreed to run for re-election for another term but will step down at the 2009 reunion business meeting. With no nominations from the floor, the following were re-elected by acclamation:

MIKE HARTUNG – VICE-PRESIDENT

NICK LOUQUE – SECRETARY/TREASURER

Six locations were offered as 2009 reunion sites. They were: the Virginia area (23), Little Rock, Arkansas (0), San Antonio, Texas (30), Salt Lake City, Utah (1), New London, Connecticut (14) and Honolulu, Hawaii (0). By primary vote the locations were narrowed down to the Virginia area and San Antonio. The result of the second vote was the Virginia area (25), San Antonio (41). The 2009 reunion will be held in May, in San Antonio, Texas.

With no further business, a motion was made and seconded to adjourn. Motion passed.
