Command Master Chief Richard A. Rose graduated in 1980 from Taft Senior High School in Hamilton, OH and immediately enlisted in the U. S. Navy. His first assignment was aboard USS SEA DEVIL where he completed submarine qualifications on July 4th, 1981. During his tour, USS SEA DEVIL completed two Mediterranean deployments and a refueling overhaul at Charleston Naval Shipyard, Charleston, S.C. While in overhaul, he was assigned temporary duties aboard USS STURGEON, USS NARWHAL, and USS SEA HORSE.

From 1985 to 1995 his assignments include, Commander, Submarine Squadron FOUR as the Operations Supervisor, USS LEWIS AND CLARK (SSBN 644) (BLUE), USS JOHN C. CALHOUN (SSBN 630)(GOLD) and USS TREPANG (SSN 674) as the Assistant Navigator. From 1996 to 1999, Master Chief Rose was assigned to Commander, Submarine Squadron ONE as the Assistant Operations Officer. During his tour he was temporarily assigned to USS SAN FRANCISCO as the Assistant Navigator.

Master Chief Rose then attended the Senior Enlisted Academy in Newport, R.I. After graduation he reported to USS COLUMBIA (SSN 771) as Chief of the Boat where he served from 1999 to 2002. During his tour, COLUMBIA conducted a Western Pacific Deployment and was awarded a Navy Unit Commendation and Meritorious Unit Commendation.

From 2002 to 2005 he was assigned as the Command Master Chief of Submarine Squadron THREE in Pearl Harbor, HI. He then transferred to Trident Training Facility Kings Bay, GA., as the Command Master Chief from 2005 to 2008. In 2007, he was forward deployed as an Individual Augmentee to Camp Bucca, Iraq in support of the Global War on Terrorism and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was assigned has the Command Master Chief of Navy Provisional Detainee Battalion THREE.

Master Chief Rose’s awards and decorations include a Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal(3rd award), Navy Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy Achievement Medal (six awards), Army Achievement Medal, Combat Action Badge, Enlisted Submarine Insignia, Scuba Diver Pin, and SSBN Deterrent Patrol Pin.

He is married to the former Tanya D. Franklin of Newberry, South Carolina. They have two sons Matthew David and Tristan Gage and reside in Kingsland, GA.
