Master Chief Fusco, a native of Providence, RI,
enlisted in the United States Navy March 25, 1982. He attended Boot Camp
at Orlando, FL, and went on to Electronic Technician A School at Great
Lakes, IL. After completion of Basic Enlisted Submarine School (BESS) in
Groton, CT, he attended C School in Pearl Harbor, HI. Once his
training was complete Master Chief Fusco reported aboard USS GUARDFISH (SSN
612) home ported in San Diego, CA. During his tour he qualified in
submarines, completed a 22 month overhaul and made a six month Western
Pacific deployment.
In June of 1987, he transferred to shore duty
which brought him back to Groton, CT as an Instructor at Naval Submarine
School. During this tour, he qualified as a Master Training Specialist
and was also promoted to First Class Petty Officer. He then transferred
to PCU ANNAPOLIS (SSN 760), which was undergoing construction at
Electric Boat Shipyard. Master Chief Fusco was promoted to Chief Petty
Officer while serving as the LPO of ET Division.
In November 1993, he reported to Commander
Submarine Group TWO and served as the Northeast Region Career Counselor
for 2 years. Feeling the need to get back to sea, Master Chief Fusco
terminated shore duty early in November 1995 and reported to the USS
ALBUQUERQUE (SSN 706) in Groton, CT as the Navigation Operations
Department Enlisted Advisor. During a deployment somewhere in the North
Atlantic, he received word via a family gram from his wife, that he was
selected to the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer.
In October 1998, he arrived onboard the USS ANNAPOLIS (SSN
760) for assignment as Chief of the Boat. During this tour, he was
selected for promotion to Master Chief Petty Officer. Following his COB
tour, he reported aboard Naval Submarine Support Facility New London CT,
as the Command Master Chief in July 2001. He terminated shore duty in
March 2004 and reported to USS TOLEDO (SSN 769) for his second tour as
Chief of the Boat. In October 2006, he reported to TRIDENT Training
Facility, Bangor WA as the Command Master Chief.
Master Chief Fusco is married to the former Judith L.
Girard of Milford, CT. They reside in Bremerton, WA with their youngest
son Jason. Their two older children, Phillip and Kasey, are attending
college in Connecticut.
